Fish Box Derby 2025
What a fantastic day at the 2025 Gloucester Fish Box Derby!
I had a great time cheering on racers alongside their families, event volunteers, and community supporters for this beloved annual tradition — rolling down a new hill this year on Gloucester Avenue!
The Fish Box Derby is all about creativity, teamwork, and hometown spirit. Kids ages 8 to 14 design and race their own gravity-powered cars, competing for trophies and scholarships of up to $500 — all thanks to the dedication of organizers, sponsors, Cape Ann Veterans Services and the Cape Ann United Veterans Council, which has proudly led the event since 2017.
Originally started in the 1950s and revived in 1993, the Derby continues to bring smiles, friendly competition, and community pride to Gloucester year after year.
