Today, August 7th, marks the celebration of Purple Heart Day, where Americans have a special opportunity to honor the nearly two million brave men and women who fought for our nation’s freedom, and were killed in action or bear the physical scars of war.
Purple Heart Day is observed annually on the 7th day of August, commemorating the day in 1782 that General George Washington, Commander-In-Chief of the Continental Army, commissioned the first Purple Heart Medal, originally called the Badge of Military Merit.
Today, we pause to recognize and remember the brave men and women who made great sacrifices in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten. Let us remember them with gratitude and continue to uphold the values they fought to protect.
