“Libraries open doors and bring communities together.” — Ann-Margaret Ferrante
Earlier this summer, I was honored to join Ann-Margaret’s family, friends, state and local officials, and members of the community at the Sawyer Free Library for a special Memorial Plaque Dedication Ceremony celebrating her life and legacy.
Held on June 26—Ann-Margaret’s birthday—the ceremony was a beautiful tribute to a woman whose love for Gloucester and commitment to public service touched so many lives.
The plaque now hangs on the main floor leading to the children’s room, a particularly fitting location for Ann-Margaret, who grew up just a block from the library and discovered her love of reading within its walls.
As a State Representative, she never lost sight of the importance of libraries to our communities. Her tireless advocacy helped secure the funding that made Gloucester’s expanded, 21st-century Sawyer Free Library a reality.
It was especially meaningful to have Ann-Margaret’s mother, Frances, herself a librarian, join us for the dedication.
Her legacy lives on in Gloucester, in this library, and in the many lives she touched through her years of service.
