'Lily Jean captain nominated for three Mariners Medals'

"Sanfilippo, who died Jan. 30 when the Lily Jean sank off Gloucester with all seven crew lost, was nominated for the committee’s consideration by state Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, and Ted Costa."

"Tarr, who was at the meeting, said that at the time of each event, other community members wanted to nominate Sanfilippo for the Mariners Medal but the late captain said no because “he felt that it was every mariner’s obligation to help someone when they were in peril at sea.”
