Yesterday the region's legislative delegation and officials from the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) convened a meeting to discuss the impacts of the recent discharge of untreated sewerage into the Merrimack River on the commercial shellfishery of the North Shore with harvesters and other industry stakeholders.
Thanks to Town of Ipswich's Town Manager Brendan Sweeney and the Ipswich Selectboard for hosting the meeting, which drew a large number of participants, at Ipswich Town Hall.
Tests will be conducted on Wednesday, July 8th which could lead to the shellfish beds reopening for harvest on Thursday, July 9th and we will share any information received from DMF as soon as possible.
