'Tarr named to House, Senate negotiating panel for energy bill'

"Gloucester lawmaker Bruce Tarr is one of six lawmakers who will be responsible for bridging a wide divide and crafting compromise energy affordability legislation.
The House on Thursday named Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee Chairman Mark Cusack of Braintree, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Aaron Michlewitz of Boston and Minority Leader Brad Jones of North Reading to negotiate on behalf of the House bill (H 5151).
The Senate followed suit in the afternoon, naming Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy Committee Chairman Michael Barrett of Lexington, Majority Leader Cindy Creem of Newton and and Tarr, the minority leader, to represent the Senate approach (S 3166).
Senate leaders predict savings of more than $14 billion over 10 years if their bill becomes law, compared with the roughly $9 billion over a decade the House claimed for its version. Energy policy negotiations have been among the trickiest for lawmakers to settle in recent sessions, and the divide between this year's bills poses a daunting challenge as the differences go deeper than the savings estimates."
