"Meanwhile, State Senator Bruce Tarr of Gloucester, the Republican minority leader whose district also includes Ipswich, Newburyport, and Salisbury, said a swift repair is critical ahead of the holiday weekend.
“The ongoing release of millions of gallons of untreated effluent into the Merrimack River as one of the peak periods of summer activity approaches is an emergency with many potentially serious consequences for public health, beachgoers, our commercial and recreational fisheries, the regional economy, and the environment,” Tarr said in a statement."
