Today, Wednesday, July 15, the bill I originally filed as S.2449, An Act Establishing the Blue Star Family License Plate and which ultimately became S.2903, An Act Honoring Blue Star Families, was signed into law by Governor Maura Healey alongside surviving family members of law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty, state officials, and law enforcement officials throughout the Commonwealth.

When family members lose a loved one who dies while protecting our public safety, they make an incalculable sacrifice that continues every day as they carry on without that person in their lives. This new Blue Star Family License Plate is a lasting way to recognize that sacrifice, honor their loved one's service, and remind all of us of every opportunity to express our respect, gratitude, and support.

Thank you to State Representative Tom Walsh, State Senator Paul Mark who filed similar legislation and all of the members of the legislature who supported this important effort, including co-sponsors of S.2449:

State Representative Steve Xiarhos
State Senator Peter Durant
State Senator Patrick O'Connor
State Representative Brad Jones
Norman Orrall State Representative
Steven Howitt for State Representative
State Senator Nick Collins
State Senator Ryan Fattman
State Representative Angelo J . Puppolo, Jr.

I am grateful to everyone who helped make this meaningful tribute to the families of our fallen law enforcement officers a reality.
