It was a pleasure to welcome members of the British Parliament to the Massachusetts State House for a conversation about leadership, representative government, and the role of state legislatures.
As part of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program, I had the opportunity to meet with Peter Fortune MP, Monica Harding MP, Leigh Ingham MP, John Slinger MP, Lewis Cocking MP, Alicia Kearns MP, and Chris Webb MP on their visit to Massachusetts as part of the British-American Parliamentary Group.
While our systems of government may differ, we share a fundamental commitment to representative democracy and to the responsibility of elected officials to serve the people they represent. Conversations like this provide an opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from each other’s experiences, and strengthen the enduring relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom.
Thank you to WorldBoston and the U.S. Department of State for facilitating this important exchange and for bringing these parliamentary leaders to Massachusetts.
