The latest water quality sampling from the Merrimack River Watershed Council (MRWC) shows that some areas of the Merrimack River currently appear suitable for recreational use, while others continue to show elevated bacteria levels above recommended safety thresholds.
According to MRWC's latest testing:
✅ Areas meeting recreational water quality standards included:
• Route 113 Bridge (Haverhill)
• Deer Island (Amesbury)
• Salisbury Beach – Riverside
• Plum Island Light (Newburyport)
⚠️ Elevated bacteria levels were detected at:
• Ferry Park (West Newbury)
• Newburyport Harbor testing locations
Before entering the water, I encourage everyone to check with their local board of health for the latest advisories and beach conditions.
