'Greater Newburyport benefits from state budget'

"Funding to improve Our Neighbors’ Table food pantry, Newburyport’s water system and the Newbury Fire Department were among the earmarks included in the recently passed $63.4 billion state budget for fiscal 2027.
The budget, signed into law by Gov. Maura Healey on July 9, also boosts local aid to school systems under Chapter 70, according to area state representatives and Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester.
“Supporting municipalities and local school districts must always be a priority for our state budget, and these spending provisions reflect that priority,” Tarr said.
“From increasing local aid and Chapter 70 education funding to specific investments based on recommendations from our partners in local government,” he added, “this budget provides significant resources that will make a difference for cities, towns and school districts across our region.”
Newburyport is in line to receive $50,000 to advance the Lower Artichoke dam project and $78,000 for the purchase of an Airvac sewer system pilot oversight program on Plum Island."
