'Rain doesn't dampen Memorial Day spirit'

"Mayor Sean Reardon introduced members of Newburyport’s City Council, along with state Rep. Dawne Shand, state Minority Leader Bruce Tarr and veterans of all six branches of the armed services. Reardon read the names of recently departed local veterans, and included their branch of service and a short biography of each."

"Tarr spoke passionately about the importance of honoring those who have served.
“When you hear those stories, you hear about the humanity of those we call veterans … and about how they gave back to the community in a variety of ways,” Tarr said.
The Gloucester Republican went on to explain the critical importance of the Veterans Service Office, calling it “the connection between the power of state government and those who need services.”
Tarr later presented Hunt with a governor’s proclamation, which urged residents to “participate fittingly in the observance of this day.”"
