'State Senate approves $63.3B budget; rejects tax cuts'

"They also approved a bipartisan measure, filed by Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr of Gloucester, requiring the state Department of Transportation to develop a plan for dealing with the problem of wrong-way crashes, in response to the deaths of state Trooper Kevin Trainor, Christopher Dailey of Gloucester, and others over the past year.
The plan calls for new signage, multi-sensory warning devices, and other technologies along highway on-ramps to warn motorists heading the wrong way, among other changes. It also calls for a DOT study of the correlation between wrong-way driving and elderly motorists.
Republicans pushed to cut taxes, probe the source of the state’s high electricity costs, and give cities and towns more time to comply with the MBTA Communities Act, which requires them to provide more zoning for affordable housing. But those amendments were defeated by the Democratic majority."
