Reminder in #Beverly #Salem the Danvers River Channel under the Kernwood Drawbridge will be closed to marine traffic. Closure in place until March 10, from 7:00 AM until 3:30 PM. The drawbridge will remain open to roadway traffic, but daytime lane closures may be necessary.

Merrimack River Beach Alliance: Working Together
Today's meeting of the Merrimack River Beach Alliance at PITA Hall in Newbury was lively and very well attended. The agenda today included the Merrimack River dredging project update, a briefing from the Salisbury Beach Subcommittee, an update on combating erosion on the South Jett - Spur project, and more.

A very engaging meeting this morning at the Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce annual State Senate Breakfast at Haverhill Golf & Country Club. Read Across America At The Steward Elementary School
You know reading is fun, I know reading is fun and the wonderful students in Mrs. Burke and Mrs. Zargaj's third-grade class at Topsfield, Massachusetts' Steward Elementary School know reading is fun too. We had a great time this morning reading and learning about their school days and what I do at the State House. I am so glad to have been invited.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Benefits
During COVID, Massachusetts households receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have been getting an extra allotment. Due to recent action by the federal government, the extra COVID SNAP benefits are ending today March 2, 2023. Since April 2020, these extra payments (at least $95) have been put on EBT cards at the beginning of each month. Starting in April, these households will get only one SNAP payment. That amount is the normal monthly benefit.
Unused SNAP benefits roll over month to month. Visit Mass.gov/ExtraCOVIDSNAP for information and to learn how you can get the most SNAP.

Essex County Chiefs of Police Association Meeting
Today, we had an engaging set of conversations about issues important to law enforcement officers in Essex County. The Essex County Chiefs of Police Association held a Legislative briefing at Essex County Chiefs of Police Association at the Mission Boathousein Beverly. Some of those talks centered around disability pensions for violent crimes, penalties for leaving the scene of an accident, adding law enforcement Councils to Mass. Tort Claims Act, allowing the sale of fentanyl test strips, and stricter penalties for distribution and trafficking in fentanyl.
