Emergency Declaration Regarding Boxford's Water Emergency

On Wednesday, September 10, Governor Maura Healey signed an emergency declaration, enabling the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) to assume control of the Andrews Farm Water Co. in Boxford, appoint the Eversource subsidiary Aquarion Water Company (AWC) of Massachusetts who then contracted with Weston and Sampson (W&S) to perform the needed work in order to restore service for residents who had gone without water for over 24 hours.

Thank you to Governor Healey for her decisive action, to Secretary Rebecca Tepper and the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, to the DPU, AWC and W&S for their prompt repairs to ensure water access was restored, and to Boxford Town Administrator Matt Coogan, local officials, and the Boxford Select Board, including members Chuck Costello and Lindsey Crea for their partnership and communication throughout this emergency.

I also want to thank my colleague MA State Rep. Tram T. Nguyen, members of my team Dr. Bonni Berkowitz, Chief Medical Advisor, and Ted Costa, Deputy Director of Community Outreach, for their tireless efforts and collaboration amid this urgent situation.

Finally, I want to recognize our first responders, who worked around the clock to ensure residents had access to water through a pump station while this emergency was resolved. Their dedication and commitment to public health and safety were indispensable in protecting the community during this difficult time.
