"Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester, and
state Rep. Dawne Shand, D-Newburyport, worked to secure the money and the
passage of not only the perennial Chapter 90 bill but also additional funding
through a supplemental budget that allocated revenue from the state’s surtax on
income over $1 million and the Transitional Escrow Fund. These bills were
signed into law by Gov. Maura Healey on Aug. 8 and June 24, respectively.
“Safe and efficient roads and bridges are essential to our
economy and our quality of life and providing them is a priority for cities and
towns,” Tarr said. “That priority comes with a substantial cost, and state
partnership helps to meet that cost so that road and bridge projects can move
forward. While the Legislature continues to consider spending items of many
types, Chapter 90 funding is, and should remain, an essential target for state
investment.”"
