Ipswich Shellfish Advisory Board Meeting
On Tuesday, April 8th, I was able to meet with town and state officials at the Ipswich Shellfish Advisory Board’s monthly meeting at the Ipswich Town Hall to have an important discussion of the National Shellfish Sanitation Program and guidance on the future of the clam flats.The National Shellfish Sanitation Program is the federal and state cooperative program charged with the sanitary control of shellfish products.
This local advisory board plays a critical role in the conservation and regulation of the town’s shell fishing flats and in fostering open dialogue between the town’s government and its shell fishing community.
The fishing industry in our district and the broader Commonwealth is a vital aspect of our economy and culture, which is why I have always remained an advocate for the state’s fishing fleet.
This meeting was an important opportunity to discuss our continued efforts in protecting our fishing industry's livelihood.
