George Demeter, the first Greek-American to serve in the Massachusetts Legislature, was not only a trailblazer, but also a nationally respected parliamentarian. His work, 'Demeter’s Manual of Parliamentary Law and Procedure,' remains a cornerstone for municipalities and organizations navigating decision-making today.
With Marathon Monday just around the corner, it’s also worth noting that Demeter helped introduce the tradition of crowning the Boston Marathon winner with a laurel wreath—a nod to the race’s ancient Greek roots.
