"As for Friday’s ceremony, Reardon said it was important for the city to offer an expanded 9/11 event considering it had been a quarter of a century since the attacks.
“I was so touched so many people came out on Friday. I think being that we did it on the actually day also helps bring people out,” Reardon said.
Among those in attendance were state Rep. Dawne Shand, D-Newburyport; and Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr, R-Gloucester.
Deane said organizers raised around $12,000 through sponsorships and flag sales. The money helps fund projects like Monday’s harbor tour for clients of Sarah’s Place adult day care, the club’s annual Kids Day in the Park during Yankee Homecoming, a Christmas party for four group homes in Amesbury, three college scholarships, support of veterans and active-duty military personnel, and the hand-out of tree saplings as symbols of the nurture needed for a healthy raising of children and donations to local food pantries."
