Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the 75th Annual International Dory Races hosted by the Gloucester International Dory Racing Committee Gloucester IDRC (IRDC) here in Gloucester during the Schooner Festival weekend, where the spirit of friendly competition and international camaraderie were on full display once again.

Congratulations to all the competitors who showed tremendous skill, determination, and perseverance in every race!

Thank you to the Gloucester International Dory Racing Committee (IRDC) and the Canadian Dory Racing Association (CDRA) for carrying forward 75 years of partnership and goodwill between Gloucester and our sister city, City of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

In addition, a special thanks to:

Rachael Cecilio, President of the Gloucester International Dory Racing Committee

Robert Fox, President of the Canadian Dory Racing Association

All of the Gloucester and Lunenburg rowers, volunteers, families, and supporters who continue to make this tradition possible

Bill and Jerry for participating in the Memorial Row honoring Captain Accursio “Gus” Sanfilippo, a champion dory rower and captain of the Lily Jean

From the Memorial Row honoring Gus Sanfilippo to the exciting races at the Head of the Harbor, this year’s celebration was a fitting way to mark 75 years of dory racing and the enduring friendship between our two communities.

Congratulations to our Gloucester rowers Eden and Sienna, Sam and Peter, Jeff and Sarah, Rachel and Ashley, Stephanie and Stephanie, and Erik and Joe for a great showing representing Gloucester and the United States!

As we celebrate 75 years of International Dory Racing, it is a powerful reminder that while the competition may be on the water, the friendship, history, and connection between Gloucester and Lunenburg extend far beyond it.
