It was a pleasure to join the Schooner Adventure's 100th anniversary celebration and mark this momentous occasion by presenting an official Massachusetts Senate Citation recognizing a century of history, service, and significance to Gloucester and our maritime heritage.
Launched in 1926 from the John F. James & Son shipyard in Essex, Adventure began her life as a Grand Banks dory-fishing schooner and went on to serve as a windjammer before becoming the historic vessel, floating classroom, and community resource she is today. She has been designated a National Historic Landmark and remains an important part of Gloucester’s connection to its fishing and maritime past.
Reaching 100 years is a remarkable milestone, and it is a testament to the generations of people who have worked to preserve Adventure and keep her sailing.
Thank you to the staff, volunteers, supporters, and everyone at Schooner Adventure who continue to carry this important piece of Gloucester’s history forward.
Congratulations to Schooner Adventure on 100 years, and best wishes as she begins her second century!
