World Suicide Prevention Day 9.10.24

Changing the Narrative on Suicide

Suicide is a major public health challenge, with more than 700,000 deaths each year globally. Each suicide has far-reaching social, emotional, and economic consequences, and deeply affects individuals and communities worldwide.

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) was established in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention in conjunction with the World Health Organization (WHO). The 10 September each year aims to focus attention on the issue, reduces stigma and raises awareness among organizations, governments, and the public, giving a singular message that suicides are preventable.

Whether you're facing mental health struggles, emotional distress, alcohol or drug use concerns, or just need someone to talk to, 988 Lifeline’s caring counselors are available 24/7.

You are not alone.

Tarr in the News 9.9.24

Tarr In the News | 9.9.24

"“The Hero of the Year Award represents true partnership, what I strive for every day of my public life,” Tarr said during the event.

Former state Sen. Steven Baddour was in attendance to not only celebrate Tarr, but also to provide a detailed account of the legislation his former colleague originally sponsored that created the Salisbury Beach Preservation Fund.

“During my tenure as state senator, our legislative delegation cared passionately about the beach, but we also had someone who was consistently there, always working with us to make legislation protecting Salisbury Beach stronger and better, making the arguments, whether it was to a Democrat or Republican governor – and that was Bruce Tarr,” Baddour said."

40th Annual Gloucester Schooner Festival

Last weekend's 40th Annual Gloucester Schooner Festival celebrated a harbor-full of maritime heritage in America’s oldest seaport.

Thank you to Maritime Gloucester, Mayor Greg Verga, all the volunteers and to the crews of these historic schooners for making this festival a success!

Honored to have joined my colleague Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante in presenting official citations to Mike Costello and Daisy Nell Collinson for their 40 years of leadership and dedication in making this annual event possible.

Labor Day 2024

Today, on Labor Day, we realize that summer is coming to an unofficial close, but the day also marks much more than that in terms of the many contributions the American workforce has made to our nation, its economy, and its quality of life.

Certainly Labor Day is an important opportunity to gather with family and friends, and to reflect on the days of summer and the experiences they have brought. But it is also a day to remember the hard work, sacrifice and persistence that have always characterized an American workforce that has given us strength and prosperity.

Hopefully we will also take a moment to thank and remember the many members of our armed services and their families who are marking this day in service to our nation.
