October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness, encourage early detection, support those impacted by breast cancer, and recognize the tremendous progress made in research and treatment.
Since 1989, breast cancer death rates in the United States have declined by 44%, representing approximately 546,000 fewer deaths than would have been expected if mortality had remained at its peak. Advances in early detection and treatment have played an important role in that progress.
But there is still work to do.
In 2026, an estimated 321,910 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in the United States, and approximately 42,140 women will die from the disease.
This October, let’s continue to spread awareness, encourage regular screening, support those facing a diagnosis, and work toward a future without breast cancer.
