🔋 Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower 🔋
🔋 Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower 🔋
Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day, but improper charging or damaged batteries can create a serious fire risk.
Massachusetts fire departments reported 22 battery fires last month — the highest number since statewide tracking began and twice the number reported during the same period last year.
A few important reminders:
🔌 Use the charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.
🏠 Charge devices on a hard, flat surface — never on a bed, couch, or under a pillow.
🌡️ Stop using a battery if it becomes very hot, swells, smokes, or develops an unusual smell.
⚡ Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
🚲 Charge e-bikes, scooters, and power tools outside when possible, and keep them away from doors, windows, and stairways.
♻️ Never put used batteries in the trash or household recycling. Use a designated battery recycling or household hazardous-waste collection location.
