'How Mass. has been working to stop ‘dangerous' wrong-way driving on highways'

"Mass. lawmakers seek more action
State Sen. Bruce Tarr, a Republican who represents parts of Essex and Middlesex counties, said he planned to meet with MassDOT officials next week to discuss expanding the program statewide.
The Senate minority leader pointed to Connecticut, which already has a more widespread network of wrong-way detection systems.
Tarr said that similar technology in Connecticut helped stop as many as 86% of wrong-way driving incidents.
“We want to prevent the wrong-way driver from getting on the highway in the first place,” Tarr said.
Tarr said he had filed an amendment to the Senate version of the state budget to set aside funding to plan expanded installation of the systems in Massachusetts. He said the pilot program was largely completed and put the state in a position to act in the coming weeks."

"Tarr also noted many incidents never resulted in crashes because drivers corrected themselves before entering highways, meaning the problem is likely underreported.
"Wrong-way driving occurs far more frequently than many of us have been aware of," he said."
