I was honored to share remarks recently at the New England Aquarium to commemorate the 4th Annual Massachusetts Right Whale Day—celebrating our state’s official marine mammal and the collective efforts to protect this critically endangered species.
With more than two-thirds of the North Atlantic right whale population visiting Massachusetts waters each year, our responsibility as stewards of this species has never been clearer. Through strong collaboration between scientists, policymakers, the fishing industry, and conservation organizations, we are advancing innovative solutions that protect whales while supporting our coastal communities.
Encouraging signs like this year’s 23 new mom-calf pairs remind us that progress is possible—but continued action is essential. Thank you to all who are leading this work and inspiring others to be part of the solution.
