As part of our Senate Republican Caucus FY’27 State Budget video series, State Senator Peter Durant highlights one of our key budget priorities: strengthening local aid for cities and towns across the Commonwealth.

In the following video, Senator Durant discusses the lack of state support for localities across the Commonwealth, including problems facing UGGA, Chapter 70, regional school transportation and the SPED circuit breaker program.

Today, May 19th, the Massachusetts Senate begins consideration of the 1158 amendments which have been filed for the $63.3 billion FY27 Budget Proposal of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means.

The Senate Republican Caucus has filed 234 targeted amendments to address major issues affecting Massachusetts.

These include:

1.) Affordability & Cost of Living

2.) Transparency & Accountability

3.) Competitiveness & Out-Migration

4.) Anemic Local Aid

5.) Maintaining Fiscal Stability & Discipline

The state’s annual budget must do more than allocate funding.

It must set a long-term course that strengthens the Commonwealth’s foundation for growth, opportunity, and fiscal responsibility.

Thank you for watching our Senate Republican Caucus FY’27 State Budget video series. We encourage you to stay engaged this week by tuning in to watch the ongoing FY27 Senate debate.
