⚓ Do you need a Boating License in Massachusetts? ⚓
Massachusetts has updated its recreational boating laws through the Hanson-Milone Act of 2024, and it’s important to make sure you’re prepared before heading out on the water this season.
As of April 1, 2026, all motorboat operators born after January 1, 1989, are required to complete a state-approved boater safety course in order to operate motorized vessels, including personal watercraft such as jet skis. Those born before January 1, 1989, will have until April 1, 2028, to obtain their boating safety certificate.
As always, safety should come first on the water. Children under 12 must wear a life jacket, and operators should never drink and boat.
