$300,000 in Relief Delivered to North Shore Shellfish Harvesters Impacted by Haverhill Sewage Overflow
The discharge of untreated effluent into the Merrimack River had a significant economic impact on businesses throughout the region, with the softshell clam industry among those hardest hit.
Shellfish beds were forced to close during a period of peak summer demand around the July 4th holiday, leaving clam harvesters unable to work while their expenses continued.
The relief grants announced for impacted harvesters will provide much-needed assistance following this difficult period.
