TARR’S STATEMENT REGARDING THE SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN COLUMBIA GAS OF MASSACHUSETTS AND ANDOVER, NORTH ANDOVER, AND LAWRENCE
My office distributed the following statement regarding the settlement agreement between Columbia Gas of Massachusetts and Andover, North Andover, and Lawrence.
Boston- Senator Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) released the following statement regarding the agreement between Andover, North Andover, and Lawrence and Columbia Gas of Massachusetts. He represents several precincts in the town of North Andover:
“Before the gas explosions and fires of September 13, 2018, it was hard to imagine the type of destruction, disruption, and hardship such a disaster could bring. Since that time, affected residents of the Merrimack Valley communities have come to know all too well the realities of these impacts.
The agreement reached today will bring deserved and needed resources to municipalities that have had to bear the previously unthinkable costs associated with the explosions and their aftermath, and it’s important that Columbia Gas is providing that compensation.
Now that such an agreement is in place, we must all continue to work together to learn from the experience of this disaster and take any and all actions to prevent such events from occurring in the future.”
