Newburyport celebrates the installation of Black History interpretive sign
Congratulations to the City of Newburyport on the recent
celebration of the installation of the Newburyport Black History Initiative
interpretive sign about Louis Clarkson Tyree along with three generations of
his descendants.
The ribbon was cut by Tyree’s great-great-great-grandnephew.
In addition to a welcome from Mayor Reardon and remarks by
Representative Dawne Shand, comments were shared by Tyree’s descendants Denice
Garrett and Will Evans and there were shared observations and context from
Harvard Law Professor and historian Dr. Kenneth Mack about Louis Tyree read
aloud by Geordie Vining.
