From the MBTA:
The MBTA is announcing from Friday, November 4th through Monday, November 7th, buses will replace weekday and weekend train service between Newburyport/Rockport and Salem for additional signal improvement work.
Regular train service will operate between Salem and North Station. A dedicated schedule will be in effect for weekend days and weekdays during this diversion. The regular Fall/Winter service will resume on Tuesday, November 8th with the bus diversion between Rockport and Beverly.
-Buses will be accessible, but bikes are not allowed on board.
-Buses will be free and passengers are only expected to purchase a fare for their trip to/from Salem during this diversion.
As a reminder, Automatic Train Control (ATC) sends signal indications to the train cab in addition to using physical signal lights alongside the tracks. These signals are part of the MBTA Positive Train Control (PTC) System that alert the engineer of potentially unsafe conditions. ATC is an upgrade to the existing signal system and is required by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) as part of the PTC System implementation.
