A Special Veterans’ Meet and Greet

On Saturday, February 7th from 11:00-3:00pm, the Gloucester Veterans Community Based Outpatient Clinic, which is affiliated with the Bedford VAMC (Veteran Affairs Medical Center) will be hosting a meet and greet with veterans and their families. The event is being held at Gloucester City Hall located at 9 Dale Avenue.

The meet and greet will be a wonderful opportunity to further learn about veteran health care opportunities. Some of the things that will be covered on Saturday include:

·         The opportunity to visit with Veteran Service Officers and Veteran’s organizations;

·         VA Healthcare enrollment assistance (must bring your DD214, Certificate of Release or Discharge, to enroll);

·         The opportunity to schedule medical appointments; and

·         Learn about the latest medical technology.

The meet and greet will also include a special town hall meeting at 2:00pm for questions and answers with the Bedford VA leadership.

Posted is a flyer produced by the Gloucester Veterans Community Based Outpatient Clinic regarding Saturday’s event.

A Special Dinner Honoring Veterans

On Sunday, September 16th, I was privileged to have the opportunity to attend and to speak at the 3rd Annual Dinner Social honoring our veterans, which was organized by the North Reading Veterans Department and the North Reading Veterans Committee. The dinner at the Hillview Country Club presented a special opportunity to thank those who listened to the call to defend this great nation by enlisting into our military forces.

The dinner showcased an Honor Guard and a POW/MIA presentation table, music, great speeches and wonderful conversations with our veterans. Posted below are two photos of the event.

Veteran's Agents Come to State House to Discuss Important Issues

Today Veterans Service Officers from across the Commonwealth came to visit the State House and discuss issues of concern to the men and women who have served our nation in the armed services. Among the leaders who organized this event was Wilmington Veterans' Agent Louis Cimaglia, with whom I am pictured below.

I was pleased to have the opportunity to discuss a number of key issues with Lou, including adequate funding for our Soldiers and Sailors Homes, funding for Welcome Home bonuses for our veterans returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan, and outreach efforts to ensure that those who deserve benefits are aware of their availability and the processes to access them.

Also attending today’s event was Secretary of Veterans’ Services Thomas Kelley, a distinguished veteran who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Purple Heart for his heroic actions in the Vietnam War. Tom is always available to assist veterans in our state, and it is an honor to work with him.
