It was a pleasure to join with North Andover officials and members of the community for a groundbreaking ceremony to usher in the two-story, 13,500-square-foot senior center which will include a multi-purpose room, kitchen, cafe and lounge area, office space, a fitness room, a game room, three activity rooms, an outdoor patio area, and 81 dedicated parking spaces on-site. Voters at the North Andover Annual Town Meeting in June 2020 authorized an appropriation of $3,000,000 for construction of the project and $550,000 to purchase an adjoining lot that will be used as a parking area.

Young Legends Street Hockey Rink Groundbreaking
Tremendous efforts are yielding results for a street hockey rink at Stage Fort Park in #Gloucester. This undertaking is being championed by a non-profit organization founded 17 years ago - Young Legends Street Hockey
They have attracted great community support from city leaders, coaches, parents, and kids. This proposed 160 by 80-foot rink is supported by the Boston Bruins Foundation, which donated $100,000. We are hopeful that we can celebrate an opening in the spring for what will be the best view from a street hockey rink in the world. You can contribute to the effort by visiting the Young Legends Street Hockey Inc.’s website, https://ylstreethockey.com

Prepare For Daylight Savings And Protect Your Family Too
Daylight savings is observed this Sunday, November 7 - we set our clocks back one hour. I'm posting this now so you will have time to order batteries and detectors. Your local firefighters recommend that you also install new batteries in your smoke alarms. And, if you haven't done it already, install a smoke alarm in every bedroom, near bathrooms and stairwells, and on each floor of your home to help keep you safe. Sadly, more than half of home fire deaths are related to non-working smoke alarms.
Install carbon monoxide detectors where you install smoke alarms. More than 400 people die each year in the United States from carbon monoxide poisoning, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Recognizing Firefighter Ishi King's Firefighter Training
Firefighter Ishi King, as a member of the Gloucester Fire Department, fulfilled all the requirements of his rigorous training this year at the Massachusetts Fire Academy. He was among 23 Firefighters to graduate from the academy’s Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program Class 293 earlier this year. I was happy to congratulate Firefighter King on his achievement and wish him a successful career in his service. Firefighters face many risks and challenges and the training and skill development they receive, in the academy and with their colleagues, is vital to us all.

Gloucester Fire Department - New Gear And A New Firefighter
This morning was a particularly good start to the day as I got to help the Gloucester Fire Department unbox new extrication gear that I was able to help secure in a recent budgeting bill. And in addition, I got to extend a Senate Citation to Gloucester Firefighter Samantha Rose to recognize her accomplishment in graduating from the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow.
Chief Eric Smith, the Gloucester Fire Department, and the #Gloucester community will be well-served with this equipment. I know that they are pleased to have Samantha on staff as she was trained in all facets of firefighting including; life safety protocols, search and rescue operations, ladder and water supply deployment, pump operation, fire attack response, and live firefighting. She was among only 23 recruits who graduated and was presented with her certification by her sister, Alexandra Pizzimenti, a firefighter/paramedic for the Reading Fire Department.
