The 191st Great and General Court of the Commonwealth Gavels In

Today, the newly elected members of the House and Senate swore the oath of office as administered by Governor Charlie Baker. I am very appreciative of the citizens of the 17 communities of the First Middlesex and Essex district for their support and for returning me to serve as their Senator.

I am also grateful to the members of the Senate Republican Caucus for electing me to serve once again as the Minority Leader of the Senate. Senate President Karen Spilka and I along with the members are committed to engage civilly, respectfully and with an aim toward making our state a better place to live, work and be.

Special thanks to my colleagues Senator Ryan Fattman and Senator Patrick O'Connor for placing my name in nomination as Senate President. And, a special congratulations to my friend Senate President Karen E. Spilka, as she now presides over the Senate in the newly renovated historic Senate Chamber.

Our state leads the nation in many key areas including energy efficiency, quality health care, an unsurpassed education system and so much more, yet we know that there is much more to do. I welcome you to stay in touch and work with us by sharing your ideas, your values and your knowledge. Together we will continue to make this Commonwealth great.
