SALES TAX HOLIDAY WEEKEND
For many years, I wrote and filed bills to make an annual sales tax holiday a permanent and reliable component of our calendar. Those efforts came to fruition when the House and Senate adopted legislation to do just that.
You can access this annual sales-tax-free holiday this weekend - August 14th and 15th. The sales tax holiday allows you to forgo paying the tax on most items, excluding food and drinks at restaurants, on purchases that cost more than $2,500. It is s a limited but effective way to give families some modest relief while also supporting local employers and businesses.
