My Statement on Governor Baker's Request for
Affordable
Care Act Small Business Insurance Flexibility
I released the following
statement today after Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn
Polito announced that they have requested small business insurance market extensions
under the Affordable Care Act:
“Governor Baker has taken
important action in asking the federal government for the flexibility in health
care that our state needs and deserves.
That flexibility will not only help control the cost of insurance, it
will provide stability and combat the disruption that the Affordable Care Act
has caused for our system and the people that depend on it for coverage.
If officials in Washington
continue to insist that our Massachusetts health care system is the prototype
of Obamacare, then they need to prevent Obamacare from harming it. Senate
Republicans have been working consistently to secure waiver requests from the
prior administration, and welcome the progress that this action represents.”
