Seacoast Service to Seniors Award

This morning the Seacoast Rehab and Nursing Center in Gloucester continued its great tradition of presenting the Service to Seniors Award to a deserving member of the community, in this case Martha Rappoli, the Director of the Day By Day Adult Care program. The award is presented at a breakfast attended by local officials, health care providers, Seacoast administrators, staff, residents, family and friends. The breakfast also provided me with the opportunity to present Martha with a Senate citation in recognition of her work and being selected for the award. Joining me in recognizing Martha were Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken, City Council President Paul Lundberg, and Dru Tarr on behalf of Representative Ann Margaret Ferrante.

Martha is the Director of Day by Day Adult Care in Gloucester which provides an array of services to adults with chronic illnesses, physical disabilities, dementia, and other problems that increase their care needs. Day by Day provides services and therapeutic activities designed to keep people engaged, active and healthy.

North Andover CAM Grand Opening Cookout Party

The North Andover CAM's open house was a great success and I was happy to be there. It was immediately apparent that this place will be the hub of great content and production. They always do a very good job covering community events and keeping us all connected and informed.

There was food, entertainment, tours of the new TV studio, sunshine and lots of happy people. With State State Senator Diana DiZoglio and State Representative Christina Minicucci.

North Andover CAM 's mission is to provide training and support so the community can create its own video and multimedia content. You can visit them at 70 Main Street. They have training and workshop sessions available for students in July and August.

Ipswich Methodist Church Strawberry Festival

Some things are just so good you have to smile really wide- that's what happens when you go to the great Ipswich Methodist Church Strawberry Festival. This is truly an event for all ages and if you want your strawberry shortcakes fresh you simply can't do it better. The shortcakes are made the morning of the festival and the strawberries are picked locally from Marini's Farm.

Held this year at the John Heard Masonic Lodge, I suggest that you mark your calendar for next June and come to Ipswich for the strawberry shortcake - or the smiles.

MassDOT: Chelsea - Revere – Route 1 Southbound

Overnight Lane Closures June 16 through June 21

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced there will be lane closures on Route 1 southbound between Sargent Street in Revere and Carter Street in Chelsea beginning the evening of Sunday, June 16, and continuing during overnight hours only through the morning of Friday, June 21.

These overnight lane closures will take place each night from 8 p.m., through 5 a.m. the following morning, and are necessary in order to allow crews to safely and effectively carry out construction operations. The on and off-ramps at the intersection with Route 16 may also be closed intermittently during these times with detours set up for impacted traffic. This work is part of an on-going construction operation on Route 1 that will continue through early July.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers who are traveling through the area should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency situation.

For more information on traffic conditions travelers are encouraged to:
• Dial 511 and select a route to hear real-time conditions.
• Visit www.mass511.com, a website which provides real-time traffic and incident advisory information, and allows users to subscribe to text and email alerts for traffic conditions.
