‘Advocates Seek More Transparency On Ballot Question Fundraising’

“BOSTON — A bipartisan group of lawmakers have filed a new proposal aimed at improving transparency in fundraising for ballot questions, which are often awash with “dark” money from labor unions, corporations and out-of-state donors.

The legislation is co-sponsored by a bipartisan group of several lawmakers, including Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr, a Gloucester Republican.

“We shouldn't accept partial transparency when it comes to who is providing resources connected to ballot questions,” said Tarr. “In-kind contributions can play a significant role, and they need to be properly accounted for and reported.””
