Cheering on International Competition

Carrying on a long standing tradition between Gloucester, MA and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, the two communities untethered their dory boats to participate in the International Dory Races once again this spring in Gloucester Harbor. Since 1951 the two fishing port communities have tested each other’s maritime skills to race dory boats while enjoying in the camaraderie the two communities share.

On Saturday, June 22^nd Lunenburg rowers raced against Gloucester’s champions at the State Fish Pier in Gloucester. It was an exciting day that featured races including men, women, mixed doubles, and masters (over 40). The competition was fierce, and the races were thrilling. Once the races were completed and the winners announced, there was an awards banquet to honor all of this year’s competitors.

The next leg of the competition will be held on Saturday, August 24th, where Gloucester’s competitors will travel to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to compete once again.
